A public-use facility that houses more than city services

Approach

The Fort Thomas city building was in dire need of renovations and upgrades including accessibility but also trying to be more welcoming for residents and other visitors. MA worked as the design architect with a local architecture firm, REH Architects to determine options for both the interior and exterior renovation of their existing municipal building.

The building received a facelift with glass and metal panels becoming more transparent promoting a visual invitation for citizens to interact with civic functions. The transformed landscape includes a grand plaza leading to the new modern entry. Necessary maintenance renovations included a new roof, new HVAC, new windows, ADA-compliant restrooms, and elevators accessing the building that was originally constructed in 1968.

Other upgrades include a small entry addition from the parking behind the building, including a new stair to the main lobby space. Key amenities and meeting space will become essential to allow for group functions and civic meetings to take place.
