Approach
The Job and Family Services Administration strives to administer and create programs that strengthen Perry County, one family at a time. The growth of these programs and support systems within the county required a larger, more collaborative facility. MA Design with architect, Gerry Bird, took on the task of designing a facility that would break down stigmas and provide a humanizing environment for individuals seeking support. With careful attention to JFS services’ specific needs, we crafted an open, light-filled space that has already improved employee-community interactions.
Moreover, during a challenging period of cost escalation and major inflation as the team was preparing for construction, MA Design demonstrated resourcefulness in finding ways to optimize resources working with the Construction Manager, cutting costs to allow for the project to move forward. Ultimately, we were able to complete the project with funds to spare.
The new Perry County Opportunity Center, designed to resonate with the region’s rural character, sets a pioneering example in the state. With public WiFi access, an open office layout, exceptional accessibility, and abundant natural light, this innovative design is positioned to serve as a benchmark for JFS departments statewide.
