Bringing comprehensive oncology services to the community.

Approach

The Delaware Health Center, an outpatient healthcare facility, was the first building constructed on OhioHealth’s Delaware Medical Campus. When the Delaware Health Center opened in 2010, OhioHealth anticipated that the center would need to expand in the future. As Delaware’s population has grown, that prediction has come true.

OhioHealth partnered with MA Design to build a radiology oncology addition and renovate a medical oncology facility at the Delaware Health Center. The project is part of OhioHealth’s mission to build a network of medical centers in different parts of Ohio that provide comprehensive oncology services. Cancer has become a chronic disease that, like diabetes and heart disease, must be managed on an ongoing basis. The oncology services at the Delaware Health Center help cancer patients in north-central Ohio fill this need more easily and in a more cost-effective way.

For this project, MA continues its long partnership with OhioHealth as the interior architect and interior designer. A unique challenge of the project was marrying the radiology oncology addition, which includes a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator, to a stylistically traditional building. The renovation of the medical oncology facility leverages existing infusion beds. It also adds new education and resource areas for patients and their families and creates one entranceway that serves both oncology facilities. The renovation improves the patient experience by making it less clinical and more patient-friendly.

The project also includes the creation of a new pediatric physical therapy suite, upgrades and equipment fit-out for an existing CT suite, and other work.
