Extending convenient access to healthcare with customer-oriented facilities closer to home.

Approach

Being proactive in a quickly changing healthcare industry, OhioHealth is developing a network of Freestanding Emergency Departments (FSEDs) across Central Ohio, meant to extend convenient access to lower-acuity emergency medical care to sites throughout the community.

OhioHealth teamed with MA Design to design two FSED prototypes: a single-story, free-standing emergency department, and a free-standing continuum of care facility that combines emergency services on the first floor with primary and specialty care physician practices on the second floor. With these prototype models in hand, OhioHealth is positioned to respond quickly to growing healthcare needs throughout the region, as the Central Ohio population continues to grow and age, and to promote healthy communities by connecting patients with long-term care providers.

Our team worked diligently to create a design for these two prototypes that extended OhioHealth’s brand standards, creating highly accessible, attractive and customer-oriented healthcare facilities that are also flexible enough to readily accommodate the ever-changing landscape of healthcare architecture.
