Renovation of an extremely busy ICU and CCU unit

Approach

This phased renovation to extremely busy ICU and CCU Units in a major urban medical center includes two entirely new nurse work areas in the heart of each unit, a patient reception area, all new ICU/CCU doors, new lighting, and all new finishes throughout the suites, including patient rooms, corridors and ancillary support spaces.

The project’s main focus was to replace aging, poorly-functioning sliding ICU/CCU patient room doors with new, modern doors meeting FGI emergency exit requirements, to improve workflow and staff productivity with a completely remodeled central nurse station, and to provide new finishes and materials to help with wayfinding and patient satisfaction throughout the unit.

The project is critical to the mission of Grant Medical Center and was the beneficiary of the hospital’s primary fundraising event in 2014.
