Last week, AIA Cincinnati COTE wrapped up the Ice Last week, AIA Cincinnati COTE wrapped up the Ice Box Challenge, a hands-on demonstration showing just how powerful Passive House design can be. Two boxes, each holding 1,000 lbs of ice, sat side by side at Cincinnati Homearama for 2½ weeks, one built to code minimum and the other to Passive House standards. When the ice in the code box was gone by day 14, the Passive House box still had 345 lbs left. A clear (and very cool) reminder that high performance design really makes a difference. Our Sustainability Specialist, Ally Balmer, was part of the planning group who helped bring this event to life and volunteered at the booth throughout the challenge.
