Reinforcing the strong ties of its products and people.

Approach

For more than 65 years, Simpson Strong-Tie has focused on producing engineered structural connectors, fastening systems, and products that help people build safer and stronger homes, buildings, and structures. MA Design’s long-standing relationship with Simpson Strong Tie, and as the designer of the existing facility, allowed our team to quickly provide design solutions for their expansion.
The new 318,900 SF expansion includes a two-story warehouse addition, office space with a mezzanine and one-story connector to the existing building. Finding a place for a new 300-person training facility required creative design solutions. Initially on the first floor, the training area was moved to the mezzanine, which required the need for substantial building code work to provide egress along with additional structural support. Additionally, the space for the expansion is located in a natural wetland area, which required extensive site work to preserve and relocate the existing habitat in accordance with the City’s new Wetland Review Board process.
Collaborative spaces are key to exchanging new ideas and fostering teamwork. With features like stadium seating to engage teams, private phone booths to take a quick call, and a vibrant ‘Innovation Room’ to spark ideas, the key to this space is to remove silos and provide organic moments for cross team collaboration. The new offices will empower teams to collaborate, sparking innovation and creativity, reinforcing the strong ties of its products and people.
