The Verena at Hilliard

Approach

Revitalizing an existing unfinished facility on an incredible 58 acre site, this new luxury senior living community provides a unique independent spirit, thriving social scene and endless sense of adventure. Connected to the public library and in close proximity to medical facilities, green space and retail shopping makes this an ideal location for an active senior lifestyle.

Leading the revitalization effort, the MA Design team was able to breathe new life into the existing 150-unit residential building, transforming it into a vibrant Independent Senior Living community.

All the interior spaces were reprogrammed to accommodate the unique needs of seniors. A new lounge space, arts and crafts room, hair salon, fitness center, game room, and staff support spaces were designed to create a sense of community.

The project also includes the addition of a 9,000 SF community clubhouse providing residents with a centralized dining room and bistro bar, support spaces, art gallery. A light filled corridor was designed to the existing residential building for easy access to the community clubhouse. The transitional spaces were designed with careful consideration for the programmatic elements and ease of accessibility for residents. Outside the community dining area a manicured courtyard with fire pit, bocce ball court, fireplace and terrace garden space are conveniently located for evening respite.

The project is Fitwel certified and was awarded a 2024 Best in Building Health Award for Highest Scoring Project the Senior Housing vbeta (Built) category.

The Verena was also the third place winner of the 2022 Senior Housing News (SHN) Award for Renovation / Repositioning (Building).
