Approach
Eliza Jennings is a continuing care retirement community that has been serving Cleveland, Ohio’s west side for over 130 years. In response to shifting economic market conditions the not-for-profit organization worked with MA Design to expand and enhance the existing facilities on site to include 48 new assisted living residences with 18 units devoted to memory care households.
The project challenged the design team to maximize the building footprint around an existing institutional aesthetic, in addition to keeping the facility fully operational. The new addition complements the existing 30+ year-old building with a timeless contemporary façade and modern architectural design and finishes.
The inviting living spaces were designed to create opportunities for residents to better connect and engage. Soft and comfortable color and texture palettes are punctuated with small pops of color, ample lighting, and eclectic accessories that add touches of warmth and comfort.
The building is situated to take full advantage of the surrounding landscape, pond, and shared outdoor spaces to foster a continuous care community and provide a lifestyle that intertwines superior care, therapeutic, social activities and opportunities for its residents along every step of their journey.
