Improving patient experience with expanded obstetrics and surgical capacity.

Approach

In response to changing demographics in the Dublin area, OhioHealth hired MA Design in 2016 to complete a strategic and master plan for Dublin Methodist Hospital, which at the time was at capacity. OhioHealth sought to expand its obstetrics capacity while maintaining the birth experience that is unique to the hospital, as well as improving the patient experience in other areas of care.

Upon completion of the strategic and master planning, OhioHealth selected MA to complete the first phase of the master plan, which features a two-story addition and new LDR and postpartum beds. It also includes 15 new observation beds, expanded sterile processing department storage and packing areas, expansion space for future operating rooms, and targeted renovations to perioperative service areas. Project challenges include building over an existing MRI scanner and opening up an existing hospital wall to attach the addition.
