Connecting students and staff to the College's mission, each other, and their wellbeing through experiential design.

Approach

The new three-story Heminger Hall, attached to the newly renovated Newton Hall supports The Ohio State University College of Nursing’s vision to be the world leader in thinking and achieving the impossible in order to transform health and improve lives. With the College’s mission to dream, discover and deliver a healthier world, our experiential designers integrated OSU’s brand through energetic elements that connect students and staff to the mission, to each other, and to their wellbeing.

Heminger Hall’s highly activated student commons atrium showcases the College’s mission and vision, enhanced by tone-on-tone Buckeye leaf motifs. Custom designed organic railings enhance the natural flow, connecting students to nature and each other, while creating a high-impact design without disrupting traffic flow. The project features a dynamic walking path spanning three floors and both buildings, with nodes along the way that include inspirational quotes and interactive QR codes offering wellness insights. A flexible donor recognition wall designed to be continuously updated, fosters ongoing support. Visible from the atrium, the demonstration kitchen, with its lively green hues and unique materials, takes advantage of natural light to promote the experimentation, collaboration and creativity happening within the space.
